A customer in the automotive industry contacted Thread-Craft with an emergency situation; a ballscrew from their heavy duty CNC machinery was in need of an urgent repair. Production needed to be running again by morning. Our sales engineer picked up the unit, immediately realizing it was damaged well beyond any repair, including a regrind or even quick fix. Given the unique situation, Thread-Craft was able to use the existing ballnut and previously manufactured 4150 screw material to craft an innovative solution. The unit was modified and repaired using our advanced milling, turning, and grinding capabilities. Tolerances of +/-.0002" were required to return the bearing diameters back to OEM specifications. The unit was preloaded, dimensionally inspected and then sent to a final running condition test.
This critical repair project was completed during our second shift, and turned around in only 12 hours. The customer was back to full production by 6:00 AM the next morning.
At Thread-Craft we are unique in our ability to reverse engineer and repair components such as this with exceedingly short lead times by utilizing our unmatched machine capacity and our experienced assemblers.
